Moving from Suffering to Wellnessby Dr. Jeffrey Henry

What if the oil warning light came on in your car? You could add a quart of oil and the oil light would go out. Since you didn’t fix the leak, the oil light will come back on again and you still have a problem.
In and of itself, pain is not “bad”. Pain is like the warning light in your car, indicating that something is wrong. Like your car, simply trying to get the pain to go away without treating the underlying problem will not work. The pain will return. If you want the symptoms to go away, you must treat the underlying problem and not just the pain.
For example, you have a headache and you take a pain reliever. After a while, the headache returns, not because you haven’t taken enough pain relievers, but because you haven’t addressed the reason for the headache. Sometimes, cerviocogenic causes (misalignment of your neck) is the underlying cause of a headache and can be adjusted to eliminate your headaches without introducing additional medicines into your system. The pain you feel is actually your body’s way of getting you to address a problem. Actually, the pain reliever is attempting to mask this warning sign.
Here’s another, more drastic solution to our problem with our oil warning light. What if you define the problem as “my oil light won’t go out”? You can fix this problem by cutting the wires to the oil light. You can now drive your car without seeing that troubling warning light. Until, that is, your car’s engine completely seizes up due to a lack of oil.
In your body, if your pain builds up, the symptoms compound and become much worse until drastic action must be taken. By addressing the real health problems you are facing and not just relieving pain, you can move past pain relief and truly experience “wellness”.
